“It’s Only a Number!”

This is, I admit, a curmudgeonly complaint about all those well-meaning folks who tell me, “Age is only a number,” whenever I kvetch about my big birthday this Thursday.

To them I say (with all due respect), “OH YEAH?!?”

If age is only a number, what about the start-school date of 5?
If age is only a number, what about bar mitzvahs at 13?
If age is only a number, what about driver’s licences at 16?
If age is only a number, what about the legal drinking age at 18 (or 21)?
If age is only a number, what about the required voting age of 18?
If age is only a number, what about the required age of 25 to rent a car? (or thereabouts)
If age is only a number, what about the start of Old Age Security pensions at 65? (Or if Harper has his way, 67?!)
If age is only a number, why did George Burns want so badly to reach 100?

You see where I’m coming from.

But all that said, I guess I’ll take it. It’s way better than the alternative. 😛

    1. Oh my, I feel terrible, I meant to reply to you but then got distracted and – sorry! Just wanted to say thank you! Also, I heard about that Chinese view, once you turn 60, right? So I should’ve already been venerated and revered for the past 10 years! 😀
